Scanning the image - yourself
For home scanner follow these tips: Scan smaller photographs at 300 dpi. Larger photos should be scanned at 150-200 dpi. Be sure to review your image before sending it to us. We suggest you scan in color. This can be helpful even if your carving is not colored.

Photographs
Carvings can be made from either printed or digital photographs. Printed photographs must be scanned into digital images in order to send them to China. Here are several ways to obtaining a digital copy of your photograph.

Scanning - outside services
Digital technology is now dominating the market place. Many small shops, major retailers, such as Staples® and Walmart®, and small computer stores now offer scanning services for a small fee.. You can save money if you take a jump drive, 3-1/4" flopp or CD-R disc with you. Most places will charge extra for a blank CD.

Our Scanning Service
Unique Stone Images will make a high quality scan of your photograph. Our scanning charge is $8.95 (+ NYS tax). If you would like your photograph returned, include an additional $3.00 for return postage and handling. Our scanning fee includes a free copy of the scanned image emailed to you

It's All About A Digital Image
Your stone carving will be created from the picture/ image you send to us. The quality of your finished carving is directly affected by the quality of the image (or photograph)
you supply to us

Here are some general guidelines for image selection

Size

Faces should be at least ¾" high.

Your carving size should not exceed twice the size of the digital image.

Clarity

Use an image that is in-focus

Not too dark

Subject(s) are complete. What you send is what you get !

Format
Make sure your image is supported by one of these formats:

EPS, GIF, IMG, JPG, JPEG, PCD, PCT, PIC, PNG, PPM, PSD, PSP, PXR, TGA, TIF, TIFF, UFO, WMF, WMB, WMBP

File Location

Whether you plan to send your digital imge through our " Upload Process " or as an email attachment, you will need to know where the image resides. The "My Pictures" folder under "My Documents" is a popular place and easy to find.

Image Evaluation
We check each image for size, clarity, sharpness and detail. We will remove minor imperfections. Your satisfaction is very important to us. Do not worry, if we have any questions or concerns at this point, we will email you before proceeding.

Cropping & Minor Repairs

Does Your Favorite Photo Needs Some Changes? Rarely do we receive an image or picture that does not need minor corrections. While it can be somewhat time consuming, it has always been our policy to make minor corrections to the images for free. These include cropping, removing minor blemishes, dust spots or picture imperfections, toning down minor glare, removing stray hairs.

Advanced Image Editing - Basic charge: $32.50.

Use this service when your favorite photo has content that you do not want in your carving. Includes:

Removing unwanted images

Correction of extreme bright or dark spots

Minor reconstruction of picture defects

up to 1 hour of digital editing

Email proof is sent to you for your approval

Digital Merging - Basic charge: $37.50 per image file

We will combine several photographs into one image file for carving. Your first file is Free so you only pay for additional files.

Image Approval

Your image file will be emailed to you before we authorize carving to begin. We kindly ask you reply as soon as possible so your order imay be processed quickly. To prevent delays - If we do not receive an email reply within 5 days, your order will be automatically processed.
